SUHAKAM INQUIRY ON THE ISA: KMM does not exist

The two-day Human Rights Commission of Malaysia’s (Suhakam) public inquiry was told that the so-called KMM does not exist.

“I have never heard of the KMM before this,” said one of the detainees. “I only heard of it after I had been arrested and during my interrogation.”

“I thought it meant ‘Kerana Mu Malaysia’ (because of you Malaysia),” he quipped to an amused audience.

‘Kerana Mu Malaysia’ is a slogan used by the government to instill patriotism into Malaysians.

Another detainee said, “I am a member of the KMM, and KMM means ‘Kumpulan Mangsa Mata-mata’ (victims of the police).”

One detainee who had been accused of being the leader of the KMM said that he is not the leader. “The KMM was created by the police so Norian Mai (the Inspector General of Police) is its leader.”

All the detainees were unanimous in that the KMM does not exist and never did. They said it was merely created by the police to justify their arrests and detention.
