THE
ROYAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO ANWAR’S BEATING
"I
do not dispute the opinions expressed by the various doctors,"
Dr Abdul Rahman
"On the
1st December 1998, I was requested by the Hon. Attorney
General to assist him in reviewing the various medical reports in
respect of Dato Seri Anwar," said Dr Abdul Rahman Yusof, Consultant
in Forensic Medicine at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Dr Abdul Rahman
was testifying at the Royal Commission of Inquiry hearing on 1st
March 1999 that was set up to establish the truth behind Anwar Ibrahim’s
beating.
"I was
then called to see him at his office and provided with the following
documents:
- Dato Seri
Anwar’s police report.
- Dato Seri
Anwar’s statement.
- Dr Shukri’s
medical report.
- Dr Shukri’s
statement.
- Dr Vasantha’s
statement.
- Medical
report from the panel of doctors.
- Three sets
of photographs."
"I did
not examine Dato Seri Anwar," added Dr Abdul Rahman, "Nor
did I have any discussions with the doctors whose reports I was
asked to review."
"I agree
with various factors such as the force applied, the distance between
the assailant and the victim, and that the angle at which he is
hit can affect the pattern and nature of any injury."
"Based
on my review of the materials supplied to me, I am of the opinion
that the injuries as indicated in the various medical reports are
consistent with Dato Seri Anwar’s claim that he was punched and
slapped."
"I also
do not dispute the opinions expressed by the various doctors in
their reports."
"I submitted
a report to the Hon. Attorney General and I will tender a copy to
the Commission after this."
