Dr Badrulamin
arrested at 11.30am today
Ustaz Dr Badrulamin
Bahron, one of the ten opposition leaders and Reformasi activists
detained under Malaysia’s infamous and dreaded Internal Security
Act in April this year, was re-arrested at his home at 11.30am today
just a month after being released.
Dr Badrulamin,
who was released on 3 November 2001 after spending almost seven
months under detention, is being remanded at the Gombak Police Station.
The Gombak police are waiting for further instructions from the
police headquarters, Bukit Aman, and it is not known yet whether
he is going to be charged for any crime or sent back to the Kamunting
Detention Centre.
According to
the police, Dr Badrulamin is being detained because he had violated
the terms of his release in that he had recently addressed a crowd
at the National Justice Party Gombak Divsion office. Dr Badrulamin’s
release was under strict conditions prompting him to comment, "It
is better I be sent back to Kamunting where there is more freedom
compared to now."
Amongst the
terms of Dr Badrulamin’s release is that he would be under restricted
residence in the Gombak area and would not be allowed to leave the
area without police approval. Dr Badrulamin is also not allowed
to hold any party post, be involved in any political activities,
act as an adviser to any political party, or give talks in a public
rally. He also had to report to the Gombak Police Station every
Monday and must remain indoors from 10.00pm every night until 6.00am
the following morning.
