Germ across the seas

The Malays have sayng: Kuman di seberang laut nampak, gajah di depan mata tidak  nampak. Translated literally, this means you are able to see a germ across the seas but you cannot see an elephant in front of your eyes.

This well describes Dr Mahathir, who said recently that he would bar any homosexual British minister from entering Malaysia.

I suppose Mahathir wants to show the world how high his morals are,  even if every Malaysian has been calling him a liar since he committed khazaf  (the Shariah crime of false witnessing) against Anwar Ibrahim.

And this most recent outburst just reduces his credibility further.

Homosexuality is not a crime in Britain. Of course, if the British minister were to engage in homosexual activities in Malaysia, this would be a crime according to Malaysian law. But you would have to catch him in the act first.

Anyway, what is the big deal about this British minister? Does Mahathir mean to say there are no homosexuals in Malaysia? Just drive around Kuala Lumpur late at night and you will see pondans  walking the streets looking for clients.

When I was arrested in early March this year, the police station I spent the night in had a special cell just for the pondans. "Some of the pondans are quite beautiful," another jailbird said. "Sometimes even the guards cannot resist them."

Very intrigued with this bit of information, I asked where the guards would take the pondans in the event they needed to satisfy their lust. "To that room," pointed the detainee.

Well, there you have it. Why bother to look all the way to England to hunt down homosexuals? Why not look closer to home, on the streets of Kuala Lumpur or inside our police lock-ups and jails? Mahathir can see clearly the germ across the seas but he cannot seem to see this massive elephant right in front of his eyes.

There are, in fact, other acts that Islam considers worse - such as having sex with someone else's wife. If Mahathir is so Islamic, then he should despise these kinds of people even more than he despises homosexuals.

I know for a fact that some Malaysian ministers are guilty of affairs with other people's wives. Indeed, I personally know some of them. Why does Mahathir not do something about them as well?
