Election Offences Committed by Barisan Nasional

According to the Elections Offences Act, Elections Offences (Amendment) Act 2002 (Act A1177), which came into effect on 16th January 2003, 'pondok panas' (booths or stalls) are prohibited. Further to that, all campaigning must end at midnight on the eve of Polling Day, 21 March 2004. Barisan Nasional, however, set up these booths in every constituency all over Malaysia with the written permission of the Election Commission via a letter dated 29 March 2004 in clear violation of the Act of Parliament. Barisan Nasional also used these booths to campaign right up to Polling Day, another clear violation of the Elections Offences Act.
